Equine Body Work

Equine Body Work / Equine Sports Massage

Merlin1 035

Equine Body Work/Equine sports massage is a therapeutic, hands-on technique that uses stroking, kneading and direct pressure to release tension in the muscles of the body.

Massage can be used as a preventative measure, helping to reduce the risk of injury due to fatigue or strain, or as part of a rehabilitation programme following injury.

Muscle dysfunction occurs when the fibres of the muscle become shortened, this may be due to overloading, a trauma, injury or orthopaedic issue; poor conformation; unbalanced feet; poor training; ill-fitting tack or dental issues. These problems can cause tissue adhesions in the muscles, which restrict mobility and can cause pain.

Massage can be used to:
- Improve gait quality, range of motion and flexibility
- Improve disposition and stamina
- Keep muscles associated with an orthopaedic issue flexible and free from pain
- Improve circulation
- Relieve tension
- Stimulate waste and toxin elimination
- Lengthening of connective tissue
- Improved muscle tone
